We would like to congratulate one of our solicitors, Steven Wicks, for recently passing his LLM in Energy Law and Policy (with merit) from the University of Dundee.
As one of Young & Partners’ corporate solicitors, Steven has considerable experience advising clients on a wide range of business matters. This includes business acquisitions and disposals, corporate governance, restructuring, commercial contract matters and business protection.
Steven decided to go back and study part-time for his Master’s degree at the University of Dundee’s internationally renowned Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy.
Steve had this to say about the experience: ‘Having originally graduated from university 12 years ago, it’s been a challenge to enter student life again even on a part-time basis. Balancing study, work and family has been challenging but it has been very rewarding. I’ve found the whole process incredibly stimulating as it’s allowed me to acquire a variety of new skills, knowledge and experience with the course requiring:
1. Research into matters such as sustainable development, valuation methods and the analysis of contract risks;
2. Research papers on topics such as SME corporate social responsibility and decommissioning of wind turbines; and
3. A (15,000 word) dissertation about the interaction between renewables, animals and heritage.
I have to thank my family and the firm for their support throughout this process and also the staff at the University of Dundee who have been incredibly helpful and look forward to putting my new skills to use’.
